HELP, What is a good rotary cutter and mat for sewing??

I'm looking online at rotary cutters and mats. i see there are self healing mats and puzzle mats that make out bigger.... what is a good brand and size of mat and what is a good brand of rotary cutter to buy? Do the rotary cutters stay sharp for quite awhile? I really want to get serious about sewing and also learning to quilt. Thanks for your help!!

I personally have a 2x3 foot mat, and would love to have one the size of my tabletop. When it's smaller you have to move the fabric while cutting and it can be hard to keep those perfect straight lines you need when quilting.
Maybe that should be my excuse for why my quilts never line up
The rotary cutter blades do last a while. I use a fiskars one, but everyone has their own brand they love. I would try to seel how they feel in your hand if you can. You want it to fit well and be comfortable when you're cutting.
I'm pretty sure that I bought all my stuff from JoAnn's online.

Make sure your cutting mat is a green one and not the gray one. I had the gray one and HATE it. Get a green one and get one as big as you can. I also have a fiskars rotary cutter. I love it but like Jess said you have to find one that works for you and that you like.

Thanks Jess,
I was actually looking at Joanne's online also because I got an email with a 50% off coupon that's good thru today. Just have to enter the code EFD200 at check out to get the discount

Is a self healing mat easier or harder to use when cutting fabric? It's a little cushy right? and the others are just hard plastic? Thanks so much, Ash~

Self healing is easier. The plastic are the ones that I hated. The fabric slips around on it.
