hey girls--don't forget to use the discussion areas for chit chatting and conversations---the stuff added in the comments area that we leave here below, don't show up in recent activity or on the home page of the site, so its hard to follow up on...thx!

Oh Tricia, it is hubby that does it. I can't, I need my bread! lol. I just watch my carbs ;)

I eat low-glycemic foods because they provide greater satiety and sustained energy, which makes eating less and losing weight easier. I also go to the gym regularly, and love doing yoga!

Heather, I had a friend who did the Atkins diet too. She lost an incredible amount of weight. I could never do it either though. I wouldn't be able to consume all that meat! Best of luck to you and your husband.

My husband does the Atkins and gets results, I can too, but I don't like to eat that way. I prefer to just cut out red meat and lower my sugar. But it is hard. Since moving to Texas, I have actually lost weight, not much but 8 pounds is 8 pounds. I am now back to the weight I was a year ago. I have started tow alk everyday. I like to get out to exercise so the weather right now is helping. Maybe we could do a weekly challenge or commitment type thing here that way we could all try to be accountable?????

I don't know about you, but watching "The Biggest Loser" this season has really given me such a charge to step it up and get healthier!!! I love watching them work out and do things they never thought they could!!! It just proves that, "Oh yes you can!!!"

I think I live a pretty helathy life but it's a constant struggle. Growing up I didn't learn the importance of healthy lifestyles. I learned that if you can get 5 burgers for a $1 then that counted as a family meal - not a healthy meal but, hey if you can feed your family for a buck - go for it. My kids know more now than I knew at 20 or even 30 years old. I think I missed my calling in life to be a dietician - it fasinates me completly. Hmmm...maybe someday.
I love to exercise for the most part and make it a rewarding fun part of my day. If I don't get out there to exercise I am just plain mean! Plus it's my challenge to myself, anyone who wants to become fit can and it's not anyone else's decision but their own - that's pretty powerful. It's usually all of the mind stuff that gets in the way of making yourself healthy. What's more important than anything to me is for my kids to have a positive self image. So what if you are heavy are you healthy?
As a family we try to be aware of what we can do to protect our enviorment. My DH is a CFO for an energy company so energy talk is always in our household. Living in Colorado we tend to be enviormentally aware of our resources or lack thereof.
Anyway, I'm here - thanks for the invite.

I want to be healthy, does that count for anything? I am actually going to be taking some classes at our church on how to grind my own wheat and make bread with it. I am so excited about it b/c it is much healthier that way.

I am also joining an organic coop that meets at the church to pick up organic foods. The nearest organic grocery store is over an hour away (we have a little bit at Kroger). So that I am excited about.

I cook a lot and try to cook really healthy but there are many things I need to cut out. I am in the process of getting off dr. pepper (my favorite) after that I am going to try and not drink sweet tea and cut out sugars.

The problem is I have candida overgrowth. I had no idea and sugar feeds it. So that could also be causing my stomach problems. I am learning that many women suffer from it and don't know it. Here is some information about it.

I'll add my story. Despite being married to a man who grows our own organic sprouts, wheat grass, and juices greens for us every morning....despite our vegetarian focus and minimal processed food beliefs, and despite my genuine efforts at walking, yoga, and pilates on a regular basis....I am still too fat!

I've always been 10 lbs overweight. After having my first baby, it became 20lbs. Now I would say I have a good 40lbs to lose. I have seriously tried absolutely everything under the sun to lose this weight. My results are always painfully slow. The only thing that ever worked with speed was Atkins, but all of that artery-clogging saturated fat just felt wrong to me.

My husband is a T1 diabetic, on an insulin pump, and diagnosed two years ago (rare). He literally eats 40oz of green drink every morning, a sprout salad for lunch, dark chocolate and almonds for snacks, and whatever I make for dinner. I cook a lot and am almost a lunatic about keeping processed, artificially colored and sweetened foods out of my kids' bodies.

I think I am very healthy. I avoided any kind of cold or flu this season. I have great energy, good skin and have no major health problems. I just hate being 40lbs overweight!!!!

I am probably the last person that will ever have any advice on healthy living :)
I have struggled with my weight since puberty. Always felt fat, always felt ugly. I have the "Cooper thighs" and have always had a hard time finding clothes and things to fit. When Glen and I were dating, I started WW along with my parents and joined a gym. I really got to the point where I enjoyed working out (which is saying A LOT for me) However, back then I would take my oldest son to preschool and go work out. That was it. Now I have three more kids and the youngest is just a baby. Not so easy to just go anywhere and do whatever I want. The only local gym here is grossly understaffed in the daycare. I mean, 4 care givers to 80 something kids at one time. I worry about taking the baby into that situation. Also, I stopped working out while we were engaged because I think I was so stressed from the way our families were acting that I just got depressed and couldn't do it anymore.
I recently got an elliptical machine, and it's in my room. I'm hoping to get myself caught up enough in all the other aspects of my life that I can be organized and fit that in too.
I'd really like to get back to eating fairly healthy. I'm miserable when all I eat is health food, so I need to work on a balance. Next year I'll only have the baby home with me during the day, so I'm looking forward to getting everything in my life back in order. It has been to out of control around here since we had the twins!

Okay Jen,
here I go. We have been eating a lot healthier.I get organic whenever I can and no high fructose corn syrup or anything like it. I read the labels and if anything is enriched it's not going in my basket. We are drinking plain Soy milk and we don't eat much meat anymore, if we do I try to get cruelty free meat. I have been baking my own bread again. It is so easy with a bread machine.Costco carrys a lot of good stuff.
I would love to hear what everybody else is doing to get healthy.

I hope so, because I was feeling pretty creative!  With summer well on its way, I’m getting into the fresh food groove and inspired to try some quick, simple recipes. The bright hues of the vegies reminded me of a garden party, which in turn made me remember I need to sew a few summer table [...]
